Here's our post to Greg Gordon's article in today's McClatchy Newspapers.
Cassandra has been chanting...we're beginning to listen. If "bugs" could not be detected and if they could result in thousands of votes being dropped, isn't it fair to assume that malicious code would also not be detected?
And don't be fooled that it's only touch screen systems that are vulnerable.
And if malicious code is not detected, couldn't our enemies try to undermine our very system of democracy...not by putting in a "dupe" but by making us lose faith in our democratic institutions?
Aren't these the Geeks bearing gifts that Cassandra has been chanting about?
"I could think of no worse...than [if] the presidency itself could be stolen.…" Thomas Jefferson.

I live in Bradenton Florida and we have paper ballots. In order to ensure my vote counts I will make my election choices and then with their marker I will write through the lines on the top header and bottom footer of my ballot, "MY VOTE WILL COUNT." When I insert my ballot into the ballot machine it will reject my vote. It will then be placed in a locked ballot box to be hand read. I will follow that ballot box to the election office and make sure it gets there. Next, a 'determination team', comprised of one democrat, one republican and one independent will read and record my vote correctly. Each member will sign and certify the correctness of my vote. This method will not work for other types of voting machines without paper trails. Though hand counting costs more, my vote is priceless. Recounts and lawsuits cost much more. I will continue to spread the word in order to avoid another repeat of Floriduh....For more information log onto manateegov.com. Then click on 'other gov', then 'supervisor of elections. The phone number is (941) 741-3823. The supervisor's name is Bob Sweat. It is against the law to 'corruptly influence votes, However, I am only 'correctly' influencing my vote since government cannot, because they are a bunch of corrupt, handholding good ol' boys with ties to election software and ballot machine companies… Please let me know what you think.

No legal advice here, just a comment that if you mark your ballot in a certain way that you can detect then it's not a "secret ballot."
Some states, California at least, do not allow for any unique identifying marks on a ballot. But then, California's requirement seems bizarre since anytime a voter enters a write-in candidate, that voter would have made a unique identifying mark.
